Kuwaiti Minister of Health: The achievements of the Sartawi and Al-Obeid consultants are a source of pride for Kuwait

KUWAIT, Jan 8 (KUNA) — Minister of Health, Dr. Jamal Al-Harbi, described today, Sunday, the global achievements made by the consultants, Dr. Muthanna Al-Sartawi and Dr. Abdul-Razzaq Al-Obeid, as “a source of pride for the State of Kuwait.”
Minister Al-Harbi said in a press statement on the sidelines of honoring the consultants that the whole world is talking about Dr. Sartawi’s innovation and his precise method of installing the knee and the artificial joint through an operation without cutting the ligaments and muscles.
He explained that Dr. Al-Sartawi’s new method is innovative, unlike the usual old operations that were performed by cutting and causing pain to the patient, indicating that the patient only stays three days in the hospital after the operation, unlike the period of rehabilitation for the old operations, which is three months.
On honoring Dr. Al-Obaid, Minister Al-Harbi said that he is one of the doctors with high qualifications, and he is a consultant in orthopedics and spine surgery, indicating that his honor comes because of the patent he obtained about injecting cement needles through the endoscope for spinal fractures and cancerous tumors.
He added that Dr. Al-Obaid’s invention is a modern method that is performed by means of a balloon, and it prevents the leakage of cement into the nerve channels.
He stated that Dr. Al-Obeid’s innovation, after obtaining patent approvals from the United States Invention Authority, will be a source of pride for the State of Kuwait, especially since this technology will benefit many patients who suffer from bone fractures or cancer tumors.
Minister Al-Harbi touched on the issue of treatment fees for expatriates, stressing that it costs the state large amounts of money, as there are certain expensive medicines, noting that the price of some medicines in America is $14,000 and more than 8,000 pounds in Britain.
He said that the increase will include all types of medicines and some radiology services, stressing that we should not focus on some expensive medicines that are needed by a limited number of patients, especially those with some cancer diseases.
He pointed out that these medicines can be obtained through insurance in the private sector or from other sites.
With regard to fees for health services, Al-Harbi said that the ministry’s interest is now focused on medicines, stressing that the increase in fees will be 20 percent less than that of the private sector in some laboratory analyzes, x-rays and examinations.
He stressed that the health insurance project for expatriates will cover all health services for residents, but the additional fees will be circulated to residents and visitors, stressing that the published information and comparisons about the new list of fees for the prices of health services are “inaccurate.”
It is noteworthy that Dr. Muthanna Mithqal Al-Sartawi, a Kuwaiti orthopedic surgeon who holds the Canadian and American boards in orthopedic surgery, has developed the traditional surgery technique in joint replacement and was known as the first surgeon to perform this technique in Champaign, which got the attention of the American media.
Dr. Abdel-Razzaq Al-Obeid, who heads the College of Orthopedics and Surgery, Head of Spinal Surgery and Head of Orthopedic Accidents at Al-Razi Hospital, obtained the fourth patent for creating a new technique in spine surgeries from the United States Invention Authority. (the end)
