Al-Shabab honored Al-Sartawi for achieving a global medical achievement

Yesterday, the Kuwaiti Public Authority for Youth honored orthopedic consultant Dr. Muthanna Al-Sartawi, who holds the Canadian and American Boards in Orthopedic Surgery, for developing the traditional surgical technique in the process of installing the knee and the artificial joint without cutting the ligaments and muscles.

In a statement to KUNA on the sidelines of the honoring, Najat Al-Sayegh, Public Relations Officer at the authority, expressed her pride in what Al-Sartawi, 34, achieved as a global Kuwaiti achievement in the field of orthopedic surgery.

Al-Sayegh commended the young Kuwaiti innovators who have proven their competence and distinction in the fields of science, knowledge and innovation, and were able to assume leadership positions internally and externally to contribute to development in their various fields.

She affirmed the keenness of the Public Authority for Youth to support creative Kuwaiti youth in the scientific, economic, social, cultural, artistic and sports fields, as they are the real wealth of the country and its leaders in the future.

She stated that the authority is interested in communicating with young people, discovering their talents and providing them with the necessary expertise by sponsoring them in youth centers and following them up in schools and universities.

For his part, Dr. said. Al-Sartawi told KUNA that he was one of the first surgeons to perform the aforementioned technique in the city of Urbana-Champaign, Illinois, and it got a lot of attention in the American media.

Al-Sartawi added that thanks to the new technology, the patient now stays only three days in the hospital after the operation, unlike the three-month rehabilitation period for old operations, indicating that he trained at Rush Hospital in Chicago, which is known worldwide in joint and orthopedic surgery.

He pointed out that he works as director of the Center for Joint and Orthopedic Surgery in (Brazzanes) Hospital, and also heads the orthopedic surgery department at (Christie Clinic) Hospital in the same city, indicating that his success and his access to these positions came thanks to his diligence and hard work in his field of specialization.

He expressed pride and appreciation for being honored by His Highness the Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, which will be a great motivation for him to continue in scientific research.

He thanked the Director General of the Public Authority for Youth, Abdul Rahman Al-Mutairi, for their initiative to honor him and a group of Kuwaiti youth.

It is mentioned that the innovation of Dr. Al-Sartawi and his precise method are concerned with the installation of the knee and the artificial joint through a process without cutting the ligaments and muscles, which is an innovative method unlike the usual old operations that were done by cutting and causing pain to the patient.
